Dogs bark for a number of reasons.
- Natural behaviour – stranger alert. Dogs have a fantastic
sense of hearing, they can hear things that we may not; Man 20,000
cps; Dog 40,000 cps.
- Fear of the unknown, e.g., other dogs; people; objects.
- Excitement and response when they want your attention.
- Boredom, dogs will develop their own exercise. For example barking in the back yard at strangers.
Barking can be managed by:-
- Exercising your dog, socialization with other dogs; running with other dogs.
- Basic obedience; toys and bones to stop boredom.
- Ignore when the dog is barking so you are not reacting and praise dog when quiet and calm.
[Please note, some dogs howling and barking may need behavioural or Vet advice].
